Scuola Holden Contemporary Humanities was established in the year 1994. It is a storytelling academy with the goal to train, through the gesture of writing, the mental skills that serve to inhabit the world of today and, why not, to modify it.
The institute was named Holden because the idea was to create a school Holden Caulfield would by no means have been expelled from. That is a place for atypical people. Somehow, picking that name signified a commitment. To this moment, in truth, the school has had a very extraordinary means to “raise” students. For 20 years, the school was quite of a small kind with around sixty students in the main course and another group of 100 in other small courses or courses spread around Italy. The major offices were in a liberty-style structure in Turin close to the river Po, which was as big as a couple of tennis courts.
The lecture rooms seemed a bit like those in the elementary schools where we all grew up with blackboards and geographical maps on the walls. It is difficult to believe what it has become now. More than 300 students graduated, the school was close to being closed down a couple of times, but eventually, it became the most well-known school of its kind in Italy.
